Make-up on a budget

Hey slay ladies, so since we all know the current make-up trends it’s time to really get interactive with our local pharmacies like Clicks and Dischem.

My whole blog is about being a cheapskate I want to help my slay ladies find their inner cheapskates, so I thought to myself what are the most basic things a girl needs in her make-up bag, primer, a foundation, contour palette, mascara and liquid liner. If your someone like me and really has to work with a budget with makeup then this is for you because you know deep down once the money is in the bank its spending time, so I really had to explore cheap alternatives to get what I really wanted.

Foundation is defiantly a must have and the brand that I trust and love especially when it comes to being a cheapskate is Essence. The Essence soft touch mousse R79.95 is a must have for a foundation. I got this from Clicks and the nice thing about Clicks is that they are having a huge sale and 3 for 2 deals, I mean life can’t get any cheaper.

Contour or bronzer is a must have I believe. I literally can’t go without it in my make-up bag, even when I don’t apply foundation I would still apply a bronzer. I browsed around and remembered that my friend had recommended that I go take a look at Wet n’ Wild megaglo Contouring palette contour R129.95 Although it was out of my budget range, I trusted my friend’s opinion.

Mascara and liner, yes please! Why are we even playing games? How else can we flutter those gorgeous eyes? My make-up lecturer advised that Maybeline Great Lash 100 Blackest Macara R87.60 was a must have “one of the best mascara’s you can find” she said, and not even that expensive. I also saw that Essence had a really cool Essence 2-in-1 Eyeliner pen R64.95 and the cheapskate in me was like buy it, its cheap and plus you’re getting more that just one liner.

Lastly, when it comes to putting on make-up it is important that you take care of your skin. That means before you put any make-up on your face make sure to moisturise with your daily skin care application. One tip or trick I’d like to share with you guys that will literally change your life forever, is using rose-water as a setting spray. Just put it in a little spray bottle and once your done with your make-up application, finish it off with a few sprits and say goodbye to expensive setting sprays. The rose-water also doubles as a toner. I bought mine at Dischem a while back but it seems like they no longer sell them anymore instead they sell rose water with glycerin. I’m not to sure about this product but I’ll defiantly check it out.

I ended up paying R362.45. It did end up going R62.45 higher then my budget, but think about it ladies… imagine I went to MAC or Bobby Brown I would have probably paid R362.45 for a mascara.

Check out for my next blog as I’ll be doing a tutorial application of these products.
